Dr. Valerie Weiss

Dr. Weiss has been at the Animal Hospital of Waynesboro since July 2003. She grew up just down the road in Staunton, but ventured to Minnesota to attend Carleton College. Besides surviving four cold and snowy winters, Dr. Weiss majored in biology and obtained certification as a secondary science teacher. Her original plan was to become a high school biology teacher, but she ended up taking a circuitous route to veterinary medicine.

Dr. Weiss worked at an outdoor education center in Maryland, taught middle school math and science in Ohio, and received her Master’s in biology at William and Mary. Managing a variety of health problems in her beloved cats and dog sparked her interest in veterinary medicine, and she eventually applied to veterinary school. She attended the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg, graduating in 2003.

Dr. Weiss is particularly interested in nutrition, geriatric medicine, and metabolic diseases such as diabetes. She enjoys working with both dogs and cats and is hard pressed to give an answer when asked what her favorite animal is! She loves working with the great team at Animal Hospital of Waynesboro and is grateful every day to have such caring and talented colleagues.

Dr. Weiss lives in the countryside north of Waynesboro with her two sons, five cats, and flock of chickens. She loves spending time outside—walking, hiking, and working in the garden. She also likes relaxing with a good book, adventuring at amusement parks with her boys, and taking long naps!
